Eugene, OR - Hogg's attorney PAUL LONEY appears after the hearing to greet protestors. Hogg's girlfriend (at right in picture) also testified in the hearing. Incarcerated activist, Jeff Hogg, appeared in a hearing before Judge Michael Hogan in Eugene, Oregon today to request release from his contempt charge. Hogg has been jailed since May 18 for refusing to testify before a federal grand jury regarding defendants in the FBI's Operation Backfire. Launched in December, 2005, Operation Backfire resulted in one of the largest roundups of environmental and animal liberation activists in the US. In today's hearing, prosecutors indicated that additional indictments were likely and that Hogg's testimony remained relevant to the case. Hogg's dismissal motion was rejected and he was returned to jail for a possible 7 more months.
